Carmen, Oiseau Rebelle production

About this production

Break the fourth wall and dive straight into the heart of a symphonic playground. Carmen, Oiseau Rebelle reimagines Bizet’s iconic opera as a high-energy, participatory concert-performance where classical music, theatre, and contemporary circus collide. Set within a fictional orchestra rehearsal, the lines between reality and performance beautifully blur as a full symphony orchestra is joined by daring acrobats who bring a spectacular physical dimension to the music. Centered around Carmen as a powerful symbol of freedom, choice, and independence, this playful production asks a thrilling question: what if Carmen decided to change her own ending? Through humor, surprise, and interactive moments, the next generation is invited to discover the rich colors of an orchestra while exploring their own personal autonomy. Conceived by stage director and librettist Sophie van der Stegen alongside the Artichoke Company, this multidisciplinary adventure is produced by Jeunesses Musicales of Brussels and Liège in a brilliant collaboration with the Orchestre Philharmonique Royal de Liège.
