About this production
Board the spiral of imagination and fly into a fantastical world where opera and circus arts spectacularly collide. Lene fliegt ins Zirkusland (Lene Flies to Circusland) tells the captivating story of an ordinary girl who teams up with a talking circus parrot to save a magical realm from a gray, authoritarian regime that has banned laughter and artistic expression. As the circus artists are inspired to break free from their roles as obedient puppets, the production unfolds as a colorful act of rebellion celebrating courage, solidarity, and the vital importance of creativity. Blending a vibrant contemporary operatic score with theatrical storytelling, this family production offers a profound yet playful reflection on standing up against oppression.
Commissioned, produced, and premiered by the Philharmonie Luxembourg for the Familljefestival Circus, this ambitious opera features a striking original score by Elena Kats-Chernin and a libretto by Susanne Felicitas Wolf.
