About this production
Unearth a deeply moving, multigenerational journey that proves the unbreakable nature of the human spirit. Nour (meaning "pomegranate" in Armenian) is a touching and optimistic opera that traces a family's history across the twentieth century. Through a sensitive dialogue between a grandfather (a survivor of the Armenian Genocide) and his granddaughter, the performance weaves an extraordinary epic of loss, exile, and migration, spanning from the First World War to the French Resistance. Moving beyond tragedy, the production leans into human resilience, identity, and the power of love to overcome historical displacement. Melding children's voices with musical traditions from Armenia, Syria, and Italy, this profound work becomes a universal language of emotion and a sensitive tribute to memory.
Produced and directed by Michèle Cart alongside Opéra-Théâtre, this poignant production features a powerful adolescent chorus that breathes life into cultural heritage, with historical endorsement from renowned professor Raymond Haroutioun Kévorkian.
